That’s exactly what is needed. It’s not that hard with straps, you need the hands to pull it off. When he and I talked about it and he told me he hooks all the time, I figured he’d have it.

I talked with Chad about them last year at the KC Games. I think he’s making the list.

We usually aim for the tail section with the gaff because there’s less meat tore up that way and sometimes get the gaff all the way through since it’s only a few inches thick.

National Geographic has that new show called Wicked Tuna about tuna fishermen. Those guys put a rope around the tail of those tuna to help bring them in. I may try that next year as an extra way of wrangling them aboard. There is usually 4 of us that fish together so with 1 driving the boat, 1 fighting the fish and 1 gaffing. Since 1 guy is just watching we decided to go with 2 guys on gaffs after that lost fish, luckily we had two gaffs.

I felt bad for missing with the gaff, as did the other guy who missed after me, but we still rode that fellow all day for buying cheap hooks that break and repeatedly told him it was ALL his fault.

Nice fish. I got a 45 and 28 this year. The 28 was only 2 inches over legal length. We had one guy fight one all the way to the boat and I missed with the gaff and the hook broke. Would’ve gone 60ish.

You’d think there was a flood coming with all the sandbagging going on

That sounds awesome. I read this and got excited thinking I’m going and then I realized I’ll be in New Orleans that weekend.

At the Arnold last year I stood next to Z and Shaw and at 6′ and 300#, I felt like a dwarf. At one point I went to the restroom near the warm up area and there’s this little “room” at the back with urinals. Well, i noticed people walking towards there and then stepping away. I wondered why no one would go in there so I just walked in and Z was at a urinal and taking up a ton of space. I didn’t care who was in there, I was there to do my business and leave. But standing next to him I realized he is as thick from chest to back as I am from shoulder to shoulder. Massive men.

Been in the same spot many times. Light weight for high reps (high reps for me is like 10-12). I came back from tearing both calf muscles and losing a tendon by squatting 135 for 5-6 sets of 10-15. Then working up to 185 x 10, … Lots of reps, SLOWLY going back up in weight. I’ve done this for a low back strain as well. And I’d also say GMs and hypers. I came back from an injury by making sure I added in light GMs each session to warm up for the DLs.

The longevity of his career and overcoming the back surgeries is just awesome. I’ve trained with guys who complain about their backs and that buddy of mine will always pull out the Norb card and tell them “Norb did it.” We actually give that fellow some hell for his man crush on Norb. His biography was a pretty good read.

I tried after the Arnold last year at a grip get together and there were a couple awesome lifts by Steve Gardner who was in from England and I think Jedd Johnson as well as Chad Woodall.

A buddy of mine called up there a few years ago to ask if they had the old school shirts, we ordered a few each. Anyway, he took one and mailed it to Norb Schemansky (sp?) along with a letter asking him to please sign it for him and a return envelope; he even sent him a marker to sign it. He was thrilled when he got it back along with a business card and went to have it professionally framed with red, white and blue mats and it now hangs next to his squat rack. It’s an awesome piece.

I got that one on April 16. I was snagging on Lake of the Ozarks that weekend. I also got a barely legal male about 2 hours later that went 25#, that one was 62#. There were 4 of us and that week we ended up with two that were 70+, 62#, 45# and 25# and like 11 that were not legal. I caught the only keepers that saturday. Every year we stay about a week at one guy’s RV down in Warsaw and then snag either Lake of the Ozarks or Truman depending on the reports. I recently got a new job so I could only go for the weekend this year after they had been snagging and eating fish for days, so I got real lucky getting two on the only day I could snag.
