WOW!

I think I really am naive about how much it happens. My son is nine weeks old now and I thought of him while reading that. To think if I ever heard he did that on a football team, he would sure be in for an ass whoopin, as would the doctor who assisted that.

Not only that, but I would just feel like a cheater.

It showed for a week at the little independent movie theater here in KC and I went with some guys I train with. The theater was packed full of people and we got there during the previews and heard comments made about us as we walked in, being all fairly big men.

I thought it was very entertaining from a movie stand point. And even though it was meant to be fairly neutral regarding stance, I thought it may have been a little pro-PED. It definitely made you think though. I guess I was a little naive regarding drugs before I saw that and really didn’t realize it was so prevalent in strength sports. I guess since I never saw drugs or people using them that it somehow meant it didn’t happen more.

The one thing that stuck with me was Mark Bell’s comment to his wife about not being able to tolerate being able to squat 800 and then only squat 700 if he went off drugs, or something to that. I have that problem now losing weight. It really showed that guys get addicted to the performance the same way people get addicted to other drugs. I’ve seen geared powerlifters with the same attitude, like they can never go back.

He died 6 years ago this summer and I can’t exactly remember where the cemetery was. It’s east of Hwy 65 and I remember being on Hwys E and C and another I think. I always have someone else give me directions to get there.

I thought I did respond! But i checked and I must of not his “send”…..stupid phone, can’t be operator error. Rainbow Bend is like my “home town” of Half Rock. Not much of a town anymore but home to so many!

Dave, I’m glad this went so well. You had a great turn out and I plan on being there next year! Thom

              HALF ROCK!

I actually know where that is. Had an Uncle who was born there.

Ben, check out stillwater kilts. I think their kilts look much better than sportkilt (I’ve owned both). Just my opinion.

                  WOW

I thought the picture was cool. I grew up in a farm town and in high school I had a couple buddies who liked to restore antique tractors. During FFA week, we’d have tractor day and everyone would drive their tractors to school. I remember one guy got a workout just cranking his tractor to start it, we of course all made fun of him for being weak (he sure wasn’t) as he had to crank the hell out of that thing before it started.

Have fun this weekend Dave. Wish I could be there, we’re heading for Illinois in the morning.

Quote from dinoman on July 15, 2010, 16:12I still “fight the urge” to eat my way out of a lifting slump.

I know exactly what you are talking about. Those days when I feel tired and worn out while lifting and seeing the weights I’m lifting, I just want to throw in the towel and start bulking back up. Looking at my logs from this time last year is the worst, probably 200-250 pound difference on the 3 powerlifts total. I figure I’ll just have to build back up. I’m heading down to 270-275. The day I left for Scotland in early september I was 333 (in the morning, before breakfast, wearing only shorts …). The one lift that hasn’t gone down is I’ll still lift my loading pins I used to practice for the Dinnie stones and can still pull 750 on those.

I don’t know John but I’ve read about what happened and shared it with my wife, now she makes me scrub off all my scrapes after playing with stones. Honestly, it freaked me out to think about it. I’ll play with stones now in the driveway, tear up my forearms and then pour alcohol on them when I clean up.

Oh, I understand they have a place but at 300 pounds, they don’t favor me so I’m against them. HAHA

I’m actually currently losing quite a bit of weight and it has played havoc with my lift numbers so I understand it. I’ve dropped 50 pounds in the last 9 months. I was bulking up last summer and just got huge and felt huge so I decided to slim down.

I read it and have been since digesting it as my initial thinking is I hate formulas and most weight wins. I had heard of the formulas but did not know much about them so I thought it was interesting. But even though I am a most weight wins kind of guy, I understand the thinking behind it.

                              Thanks all.

I always considered my grip to be weak and never figured I’d get the Dinnies barehanded. I had straps sitting behind me on the bench waiting to be used. I’ve done some lifts with rings since I’ve been back without a hook grip just to try to strengthen my grip, and because one thumb was sore for a while. The Dinnies took a piece of my thumb on my 3rd lift as a wrinkle got in the wrong place and was pinched off. I was just getting warmed up but instead had to go inside to ease the pain at the bar.

I assume Rainbow Bend is Dave Glasgow, I was just telling him at the KC games that I intend to go back for my 40th birthday (4 years next month) and just do a stone tour to hit all the other stones I missed when I was there. This last trip was a vacation/anniversary trip so I didn’t want to drag my wife around just for me to lift. She knows this next trip will include lots of stones. I intend to find the Menzies, Inver, Dalwhinnie, the Fianna Stone and visit the Dinnies again.

Just signed up. Name is Travis Willingham and I currently live in Blue Springs, Missouri. I’ve never done a usawa competition but it seems interesting so I may end up doing one eventually, if I ever learn any of the events.
