I got word from Bill Clark that Mike McBride will also attend Nationals. I have been in remote discussion with Beth Skwarecki and she is coming in from PA.

Hey Dan – I like your thoughts. I am indifferent about certificates but understand that some folks would be interested and if payment is needed to participate I would be open to that as well.

I would like to add my 2 cents to quarterly postal. One would be to rename it to the Art Montini Memorial Postal Meet. And the other would be to expand the quarterly postal lifts to 5 instead of 3. I like the added variety. I have never heard of the Habecker Lift before it being included in the postal list for this year and like to add the variety into my weekly training sessions. I am also aware of the USAWA does have rules in place for lifts done for repetitions. So perhaps the last event could be for ‘x’ reps. Again my 2 cents only.

Dan – you coming up to compete for Nationals?

Hey Eric, BSAG is the British Strength Athletes Guild. They host a monthly postal called the Ron Walker Memorial Postal Series. The BSAG is similar to the IAWA except their focus is this Ron Walker Memorial. The guy who started it, Tony Cook, is one of the founders of the IAWA back in the 80’s. The format is similar to our postal except they have a lift for 4 reps, then they take that same lift and then do how many reps you can do within 1 minute. For example, they will do the snatch, clean jerk, clean press, pull over and pressx4, then pull over and press as many times as possible for one minute. The BSAG does not have any social media or internet presence. I can forward you contact information if you want. Just shoot me your email. My email is axsmith@att.net. The cool thing about the BSAG postal is it gives you monthly exercises to work that you can kind of program around. Also not knowing who Ron Walker was I looked him up and is one of the greatest English lifters ever.

My first plan was to do the quarterly stuff at Nats, but was told that there would be limited time to fit in additional stuff so I talked Ole Clark into fitting me in on Saturday. Hopefully my pinkies will heal up in time. Also told no time to fit in additional record lifts. I am fine with both of those limitations on my end. Mostly coming into Nats to see some folks I have never met and see Al’s gym. My first USAWA Nats was in 2000 in Columbia, MO and I never went to another Nats.

I have signed up. I know that Dave Deforest has also signed up. Trying to decide whether I make a big day out of it or drive down Friday night and return home on Saturday night. Looks like about a 3.5 hour drive in.

That is very…creative write-up. I have never tried the Habecker. I looked it up and started to work on it here and there. I have to say it really works some weak spots have developed over the years. I will for sure be working this lift in the future.

I am still amazed that the same folks that did this some 20 years ago are still going strong and want to say a big thank you to those who have kept it going. If I could be half the lifter of those that posted I will consider myself lucky in the game of lifting.

Hey Steve, really like your Strong First forum posts. Right now my understanding is that only Record Days will be held and you need to schedule those 6 weeks in advance. Bill Clark is going to try to push through the Deadlift Dozen…but I told him that is likely not going to happen so just plan on the Record Day. Regards Abe.

Hey Al, I did not mean to be pushy. I know this is a hectic time for everyone. Good luck!

I am good with the socially distanced grip champs as well. Just as long as we got some vertical bar deadlifts. LOL. I am also eager to see how everyone did on the Q4 of the postal lifts!

I thoroughly enjoyed lifting. It was a good excuse to get out of the house and visit. I really like to see the lift results of the kiddos and hope I can lift into my 70s/80s as well. Very much life time goals.

Cool. Thanks for the comments guys! ET, that was a lot of leg work. I appreciate the effort. Hope you guys are doing okay! Next year we can gather at ETs again! Dan Wagman had a hell of a middle finger pull. Guy has fingers of iron!

My daughter really enjoyed doing the lifts. I tried to nudge her on at home…but she quickly fell back to binge watching CW. She will do the 3rd Quarter postal lifts as well.

Since I am short, I train in the basement. Since work has shut down to alleviate threat of spreading I have been working from home. Actually I made a good thing worse. I started to workout more often with less warm-up time. Started to do things I should not have done on a whim and aggravated some old injuries. Paying the price now. But I will do the postal lifts here shortly. I like Lynda B creativity.

I do not know about biceps, but on the occasions where I have had muscle strains I try to do something like the Bill Starr protocol which is pretty much very light weight plenty of reps to just get the blood moving. I think it is like 3×25 is recommended then add a little weight every training session. The protocol calls for doing the same lift in which you hurt the muscle. But in a bicep case maybe really light curls can be an alternative, or maybe even the old long pulls/curl-squat/heavy hands stuff may help. I have used it for my back a lot and for times I do something that takes out my squats like groin strains and things.

Okay. Well I will do the lifts and have my wife judge. Not going to set any records anyway. I will not video as no one really wants to see that anyways! Thanks for the replies. I am amazed at how crossfit allows video judging in the their open rounds. How does one judge a kippling pull up anyway?
