Got 55# today. First one was iffy, 2nd was rock solid. Thor’s hammer is a fickle mistress.

Very nice! I totally agree. I will sometimes miss one attempt (badly) and then – not letting go of the bar – swing it again and make a good lift right after that.

You might get me. My best in training is 52.5

Well in that case, I’ll pull a real D-move and ask for 53 at the contest, haha!

I’d like to see if there is anyone willing to let me follow them in my vehicle to Eric’s gym. I found it last year – thanks to Eric spending like 5 minutes on the phone with me giving me directions! – but it was almost totally luck that I found my way there. GPS was no help at all. I don’t want to be late this year.

Unless, Eric you can give me the exact GPS coordinates (strange request, yeah I know) to your place. That way, GPS might actually take me right there instead of like 10 miles away.

Well, 3 weeks out from the OTSM and I failed yet again with 60lbs on the Thor’s Hammer. I got a contest-legal lift with 55lbs yesterday though. So I’m edging closer. I am always good for a bit more in a contest though.

Eric, did you get my entry and payment yet? I am asking because two neighbors told me yesterday that they had some mail (outgoing and incoming) stolen sometime last week. If you haven’t received them, I can stop payment on the check and then just bring you a signed form and another check or cash to the meet instead.

I printed my entry off yesterday and it is sitting on the counter waiting for Monday to go out. I’m working a ton of hours this weekend, so I won’t get it out today.

Not super close to nailing 60lbs yet. But since the last time I posted I’ve done 3 Thor’s Hammer workouts where I at least tried to get the feel for close to my goal – 58lbs in this case. Have gotten to the point where I can get it fixed overhead just for a split second for a single or three in a workout. And the lower weights are of course getting smoother and easier to get contest-legal lifts with. 46lbs was very easy yesterday.

I don’t have the left shoulder flexibility to do anything overhead anymore. Not a new development. But what I have been doing to make it feel like the right hand is not getting totally overworked and having all the fun is doing swings left handed with the same weight that I use right handed for the Thor’s Hammer. Doing swings with the 2″ USAWA vbar has a nice feel to it.

When I attend Record Days, I am very respectful of the time it will take out of everyone else’s lifting to “take care of” me when I’m doing my record attempts. I’m sure almost all of us are thoughtful and considerate about this. There are times when it is a bit intoxicating to set a bunch of records if you’re on a roll though. I definitely understand that. Been there a few times myself! I remember the first Record Day I did at Bill Clark’s gym in December of 2003. Tom Ryan and I were setting a bunch it felt like. Not much rest, just getting it done and enjoying some new (for me) lifts and some that I was quite familiar with.

I would support the idea of paying for extra record attempts – to add a little bit to the USAWA coffers. That is very reasonable.

I was pretty surprised when I read that he paid $500 for an extra lift though! That is hardcore.

I love the fact that I can download the record book and all of its updates. I just think it’s nice not having to have to log on to check something out real quick. But I’ve seen something that I think has a HUGE coolness quotient, that perhaps USAWA could adopt for its records?

                        Check it out…and waddaya think?

I especially like this from North American Grip Sport:

I think the Grip Sport one is great, too! I have viewed it quite a bit. The ability to sort by weight class and location is a great feature.

Just got the time off approved from work. I look forward to seeing everyone at the OTSM!

Thanks, Eric! That’s how I interpreted it too. I really like the 1 minute rule. And moving it non-stop is not a problem. Getting it fixed overhead cleanly is the problem, haha.

On Thursday, I did a few Thor’s Hammer singles and finished with a contest-legal 53 pounds. Ended the workout there. I had lofty goals in mind for the OTSM, but to be honest I don’t think I can eke much more out of this lift. I am enjoying it though. My wife even tried it with a very light weight. So did my 3-year-old Josephine.

I have a simple plan to work towards a 60+ pound lift at the OTSM. It may or may not work. But that’s part of the fun.

Thanks, Lance! I will continue to work with the swing then. I don’t have enough wrist strength to effectively work with the snatch style.

I will compete if I can get the time off. Easier said than done lately. We have huge overtime for the next 6 months.

I dusted off my USAWA 2″ vbar this afternoon. Did a little Thor’s Hammer practice with the swing style instead of the snatch style I used at your contest back in November. Seems a lot easier on the wrist. My best was only 47lbs, but I hope to take Garcia’s record in the 220lb weight class.
