Best of strength guys! I’ll be working but I’ll keep you in my thoughts and look forward to reading the results.

This sounds very interesting. I had a nearly year-long phase where I did the Heavy Hands training pretty hard back when I was skinny. Quite neat training.

Meant to say that I’m glad to see Matt’s training again or still training. He’s underrated and I always wanted to see him enter a big grip comp and crush some heads. I tried a friend’s Rolling Thunder last night (not a new one) and only got 190lbs on it. So results vary all over the place for me. He just bought it and doesn’t like it so he resold it and I asked to give it a try before he sent it off. Kept getting air with 200lbs but couldn’t finish it off.

I had one but kick myself for selling it a few years ago. Went from a first lift of about 120lbs in 2002-ish to @ 230lbs before selling it. Average lift near the end of my time with it, which I think was late 2008 or early 2009.

Very cool Al! I bet we’ll keep climbing on those other keywords, especially if we use tags often in blog posts, etc.

I’d be up for this contest! Even though I don’t do overhead stuff anymore (left shoulder is a goner) I’d still put up token poundages and do the other stuff to the best of my ability.

Can’t wait to see what my results were (didn’t write any of them down) so I can work on improving them. Have already done a few searches for decent technique videos but I know working the events with an actual coach will obviously net me a lot more improvement.

Ben – THAT IS INSANE!! (and I totally believe you did it despite the gripper leaving the camera view for a split second) haha Great Job!! I would like to see that firsthand this weekend – and if you can do it after a few shots of Scotch I’ll REALLY be impressed! Al

Thanks Al! I can definitely replicate that close before we do any of the events. It’s usually something I can do without a warmup if my hands are warm and I haven’t just climbed out of the car after a 4-hour drive. I grip the steering wheel too hard. Wish I liked Scotch actually, but I haven’t drank alcohol for 18 years now. Makes me in high demand for my designated driver status.

This sounds like it will be a blast.

…..and another thing, it kinda galls me that Ben brags about how young he is on his tag line. Oh, to be a kid again at 35. just kidding, ben

Haha, I didn’t realize that was showing up all the time actually. Haven’t paid a lot of attention to it since I thought it was just showing up on my browser and not everyone else’s.

Dave, actually putting me to work makes a lot of sense because I don’t have any goals for the contest besides learning. The other guys probably have goals on everything so if I help set up things it would take some of the load off of them and that’s fine by me!

So true, so true.. You got me laughing with that post Thom, especially recalling Bill and the Finger Deadlift! I will remind you of that moment forever. Al

Thom and I have no idea what you’re talking about Al…

On a serious note, getting schooled by Bill in that lift was a big push for me to bring up my pinky finger deadlift. I think 200lbs would rise now on Al’s bar (the one we used at the Dino Grip) for me because I tested it last night and got it off the ground on my setup but didn’t want to snap anything so I let it drop.

Good news guys, I’ll be at the Highland Games event on Saturday! Looking forward to it even though I don’t have the first clue what I’m doing. I guess I can only get better at the events, eh? 🙂

Sent you an e-mail Dave, and I’d like to come a bit early to get my hands on the implements before the contest if that’s alright.

                                  See you guys there!
