      Chaps,

It is very interesting that you are using this lift in the USA.

As for origins (of the Name anyway) , it was a lift created by Tony Cook around 1999 in honour of his gym member Paul James, who used to show off his shoulder flexibility after making a cclean by pressing the bar overhead and maintaining the full squat, all the others who tried it fell flat on their arses much to the mirth of Paul.

I think Paul was good for about 70kg on this, his press being the limiting factor not his flexibility.

The complete lift got a bit complicated, you had to clean the bar, front squat, hold the full squat position, press, complete the squat and then return the bar to the floor, thinking about the order was harder than teh actual lift !!!

This was competed in a BSAG comp, where I managed about 60kg.

As for a 150kg press, I would love to see that in PRINT.

regards, just thought you would like to know the origin of the name.

        Al,

        A great article as usual.

Just one brief observation to throw into the mix.

In my comps with the IAWA I have noticed that the Brits tend to perform a split technique on the one hand snatch and my American brethren a power snatch method.

I wonder why this difference has developed ?????

          Thom,

Great articles … but three is just greedy!

Along with myself I was delighted to see MILO articles in this latest issue from weightlifting colleagues and friends from IAWA or stonelifting forums

          Thom
          Bill Crawford
          Lance Holland – Keen.

It really is a priveledge to write for MILO, and I would encourage others to give it a go.

Some of the experiences and articles I see on this forum are more than worthy of MILO inclusion.

            All,

Thanks guys, I have only just got my password reset to get back on the forum.

I was really pleased to get the Dinnie stone lift.

A very happy Christmas to you and yours.

              Al,

On lynch formula an ant would beat an elephant in competition, but who wants to be an ant !!

Although formulas are great to try and compare lifters at different bodyweight lets never forget that the strongest guy is the one who lifted the most weight !

Just an observation from one of the “little guys” who sometimes beats the “big boys” of formula

                All,

                Guys,

I didn’t do much other than pass on the details that Ian Lynch had given me some 10yrs ago.

I have a magazine article somewhere where Ian presents his rationale for the “new formula” and the basis for the calculation.

I will try and did it out and scan it to Al for his consideration.

                regards

                  Al,

I look forwards to seeing you there.

Shoulder is buggered, back hurting and hip is sore …. yep, I’m ready.

                    Travis,

Great pictures, I would love to see a picture of your “tat” as well.

Personally I find the smaller ring easier to lift on (with same weight obviously) I guess if the ring is smaller then teh curve is more pronounced in ralation to your hand and more ring will be in contact with your hand .. just a thought.

                      All,

Just to add to the I.A.W.A lifters in the guiness book of records thing!

My current training partner Nick Molloy, who I have encouraged to join and lift in the I.A.W.A, last year broke the Guinness record for most weight lifted on the deadlift in 1 hr.

                      He managed 41,800kg

He is pretty good on the strength lifts also , and has deadlifted 215kg @ 75kg.

I am introducing him to all round lifting, and he is enjoying the new challenge.

                      regards

                      Roger

                        Hello chaps,

Finally managed to get my password sorted out for the forum !

I agree with Steve, Bob Hirsh stands out as having mind blowing lifts on both the pull and push lifts (ie deadlifts and Press) , this is quite unusual, as a body type that helps with one usually hinders the other.

It is not only the quantity of record lifts that Bob holds, but the quality.

In my quest to break 40 IAWA World records this year to celebrate (?) my 40th year, I have taken 3 Bob Hirsh records … these are the most precious to me (along with one of Rick Meldons) as he is such a talented lifter.

I never had the priveledge of lifting against Bob, but if he stopped Steve from total dominance then he has my respect.

                        Roger
