A couple of points to consider about the HomeGymCon Push/Pull

        1. The HomeGymCon promoter wanted us to be front and center of the expo for the event, but in 2025 I can only commit to Saturday. Next year he is interested in the USAWA being in the premier position in the middle of the expo.
        2. The HomeGymCon promoter apologized that he didn’t have any prize money left to give away, due to our meet being a late addition. He said he wants to include prize money next year and is almost certain the expo will be back in Louisville in 2026.
        3. We need to blow all the other sports away at the expo, which will help attract more sponsors and potential USAWA members. I expect we will be the loudest and flashiest event there. If we do well at the 2025 HomeGymCon Expo it will open doors to bring in more specialty lifts like the Steinborn Squat, 1 Arm Barbell Bent Press (Have a lifter committed for 2026) and many others. We have to use attractive lifts to get involved and then grow from there.
        4. THE USAWA MUST SUPPORT THIS EVENT! Right now we have 4 lifters signed up to compete, talking won’t change anything, actions will. We have a promoter and a venue to increase the USAWA presence, but we have to have lifters! Please don’t wait to enter, enter now and get ready. These lifts won’t affect training for Nationals, they are complementary to the lifts at Nationals.

That’s an interesting premise. But the simple answer is YES!
All the championships are well and good, but what point do they serve.
          – Nationals needs to become the premier event of the year and have the biggest turnout. It should also be held in a hotel or conference center in an area that families will want to attend. Also, it should have lifts that can be easily performed at local gyms and be a one day event. Two day events are a huge struggle for families to attend and participate. The timing of Nationals is the best one to attend, since children will be out of school. It is my hope that one day the National Office may be the host of Nationals and make it spectacular.
          – Postal Championship is a great event, it allows more all around lifts to be performed that really aren’t suitable for an in person competition. I like this event and hope to participate more in the future.
          – Heavy Lift championships is a bit of a dinosaur. In the current world of strength sports it may have a place but it will always be a niche event. It would be well suited to be part of a weekend championship combined with another championship to increase attendance, possibly the Presidents Cup.
          – Team and Club could easily be merged into one combined championship. Both are interesting, but it would need to be a postal meet from each club, on the same weekend, to make it viable. Buffville, Clark’s Gym and Canada have all discussed this possibility for a future Team/Club Championship. It would be great to have other clubs or teams share their interest.
          – Grip Championship has a lot of potential. Its a solid championship that could easily grow into a larger event. Seeing this event in a more populated part of the country may see some potential growth. Also this event would be excellent to have at a regional expo.
          – Old Time Strongman Championship is probably the most compelling of all the championships. It has a World Championship meet to feed into and has the most potential of all the events. This event should be changed to the Old Time Strongman National Championship since the IAWA has officially recognized the OTSM Worlds. All World events should have National Championships in their respective countries. As Sanjiv mentioned in an earlier post, this is the biggest area of growth in the USAWA. OTSM events are unique and compelling, while reaching a much broader base than traditional All Around lifts.

          – Regional diversity in locations of events is necessary to maintain the viability of all these championships. That did happen in 2024 to some degree. Also, the USAWA should consider having a Mega Nationals where more than one championship is contested at once. USA Powerlifting did this for several years and had massive turnouts. Having more than one championship event on a weekend would bring the potential to expose lifters to more types of all around lifting.
FYI – We are still working on getting in the Arnold Sports Festival and if this happens, fingers crossed, we would be having multiple events across one weekend.

Currently the answer is YES! The USAWA has too many championships that are not bringing new lifters to the organization. Merging & combining these events would be great way to possibly spark interest.

Is the Travis lift an incremental Rack Pull with a Chain attached to aid in the lift?
It also looks as though it can be supported on the thighs as well.

I have a training partner, Ashley, who loves this kind of lift. Me not so much

Yes the bolt is threaded, I can add a nut to it if I need to, but as of now the rod has not moved in the stone. The rod runs through the entire length of the stone and I am unsure about adhesive. He told me it was a tight, very tight fit and hard to drive through the granite stone.

                Interesting debate gentlemen.
I would like to respond to a few of the points.

Drug Testing as performed with a minimum random 10 percent testing in competition is MALARKEY!
USA Powerlifting releases their drug testing results online & in 2023 preformed over 3,100 drug tests. Of the 3,100 drug tests there were 19 failure. That is less than 1 percent of people failed the drug test, Is that effective??? Absolutely not, when I was a USA Powerlifting Kentucky State Chair and required to administer drug tests, I had ZERO failures. 10 percent random testing does NOT work. WADA now does a monitoring type of program based on Athlete performance, no local level testing, only at the National Level unless an OMT(Out of Meet Test) is warranted. Drug Testing can be effective but needs to implemented as a deterrent and when requested. There are several other issues with drug testing that need to be addressed, but I digress for now on this topic.

The Lynch Formula! As someone who’s competed in over a dozen different strength organizations in Powerlifting, Strongman, Highland Games, Bodybuilding and Weightlifting, the Lynch Formula is as good a formula to measure strength as I have seen. The only thing that baffles me is why the 1.00 point is set at 75 KG/165 lbs. Honestly, it seems to me it should be at least at 85 KG maybe even 90 KG for the 1.00 setting in the Lynch Formula. In my experience, its as good a formula as I have ever seen or used. Remember, the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.

Standardized Equipment is an interesting topic. I have many calibrated plates in BUFFVILLE GYM and I also have some uncalibrated, but it would be easy to weigh any of them if that was a requirement for a National or World Record. Purchasing calibrated plates is very expensive and would be a major problem for getting more USAWA meets, since many are held in personal gyms. I really don’t want us to require calibrated plates.

Everything else is best discussed over food & drink!

                BE STRONG!

The creator of the BUFFVILLE STONES drove a metal rod through the stones and put a bolt on the end of it. Then tested lifting the BUFFVILLE STONES. The rod has not moved to date with the stones being lifted over 20 plus times by 9 individuals so far……& more to come soon!

I am one hundred percent in favor of online voting for membership. It allows people to participate that can’t attend Nationals.
My recommendation is to send an email ballot that allows only one vote per email per topic. It’s not a difficult process, I do it regularly for the seed company we sell for, they use a survey type ballot to find out how people enjoyed certain events. The company they use is Survey Monkey.
I brought this topic up with USAPL when I was a state chair and was abruptly shut down, hence my hesitation.
I like the USAWA and believe online voting would be a great asset.
