Great lift Ben!! That is quite a bit different than USAWA rules! What were those little colored bottles in front of the weight for? In grip comps, how high do you have to lift the VB, or just off the floor adequate?

Word of advice – you better stretch those hammies first before doing another lift that big!!!! Al

            i agree, great lift!

as an aside, the most recent research i’ve read is that you should stretch after lifting, & warm up before. stretching temporarily weakens the muscles & shortens endurance. just my humble two cents 🙂

here is a link to an article that references some journals, since nobody should take my word for it:

Jarrod, I absolutely agree with you on stretching. Warming up and stretching are two completely different things. Stretching aggressively prior to lifting increases your chances of a pulled muscle. I do my stretching two days after my hard back/leg workout, and mainly for flexibility and recovery. Al PS I was only poking fun at Ben for rubbing his hamstring after lifting in the video on a one hand VB deadlift of all things!!!

                    Thanks Al!

The colored bottles are just paint bottles that I use to gauge height in videos. The standard grip comp rules only require 2″ of height to be declared a legal lift.

I’ve never had a hammy cramp up on a lift like the vbar. Even when I pulled 400lbs+ a few times on the 1″ vbar. I was pretty surprised. It continued to cramp all through the night.
