I would like to clarify what we are allowed to do for this challenge. Is there a time limit? Or can the lifter continue to do reps until failure? If the latter, are “rest pauses” allowed.

Technical rule VIII.31. seems to suggest a potential maximum of 2 minutes. But at least one lift, two hands anyhow, has no time limit (for reasons that I don’t know). I.23. Total Poundage time limit is 3 hours 9 minutes. K. Repetition Lifts is silent regarding time allowed.

I don’t know if there is a “correct” answer to this or if it is something that will evolve and get worked out.

Hi Randy, I think the rules for repetition are pretty vague and I expect we will need to update them at the next meeting. So I can tell you how we’re doing it at our club, but none of this is official.

Time limit is whatever it says for the rules of that particular lift. Since VIII.31 specifies 2 minutes to BEGIN the lift, I don’t think that limits the time to complete the lift or set. Do reps til failure.

In the repetition records we have done so far, we have considered a 2-second pause as the maximum “rest”, any more than that ends the attempt. Releasing the bar or implement with one or both hands ends the attempt.

As an athlete, I am excited for this meet. As an official, I am less excited for this meet.

I agree that a consensus on rule V.8 will not happen by August 1st “There must not be any long pauses between repetition lifts, with this being based on the judgement of the official.”

Personally, I am going to choose lifts and loads that should allow between 10 and 20 repetitions in less than 3 minutes. Looking at the IAWA world records, the majority are under 20 repetitions and nearly all are under 100 repetitions.

Some members have floated the idea of creating an ad hoc committee to generate repetition lift proposals/clarification ahead of the 2027 National Meetings. If you would like to be involved, please respond to this thread.

Me too. The innumerable possibilities should be interesting, fun, and inspiring to explore.

Hi Sanjiv, I would be interested in participating in the Rampage committee. I like the idea of helping to create a high-reps structure that would be shorter than 3 hours 9 minutes, but yet manageable for maintaining records.
