Now is the time to start thinking about the 2026 Annual Meeting. If you have ideas that would allow the USAWA to grow in a positive direction, share those ideas with your fellow athletes in this forum, Facebook or with usawasec@gmail.com

I have attended the past three annual meetings. I love the enthusiasm of members making motions on the floor. I don’t love the confusion that often ensues during voting. I really don’t love unintended consequences that arise when motions are not well thought out and presented haphazardly to the membership in a loud restaurant. Motions that are written in advance and part of the agenda usually have thoughtful discussion and are voted on quickly and without confusion.

I respect that some members just want to enjoy lifting without dealing with organizational issues, rule books and by-laws. However, we are a small organization with less than 50 members in the United States. Everybody should feel heard.

We also have nearly 40 years of history preserving the history of the original forms of weightlifting and old-time strongman. Those roots should not be forgotten.
