Old Time Strongman Championship

By Eric Todd

This year marked the eleventh year that KCSTRONGMAN hosted the Old Time Strongman Championship. This year saw representatives of 3 states and 4 clubs: Habeckers, Ledaig, Dino Gym and KCSTRONGMAN. This was the first year in a spell where we have had no female representation. The day was beautiful, the camaraderie amazing and the lifting strong. It has also been quite a while in which I do not think any of our lifters had a bad day; Everyone was setting records and setting PRs. While Chad’s shoulder limitations held him back in the first three lifts, his huge Kennedy saw him win his fifth old time strongman championship, putting him in a league of his own in this category. The two Dave’s were hitting stupid numbers. Denny continues to amaze at 82 years old. Young Everett Todd is starting to play with the big boys in regard to weights lifted. Tony Lupo and Lance Foster looked to be in top form as well.

Official results are as follow:

applications and fees

By Eric Todd

Eric Todd is no longer the treasurer of the USAWA. I am working toward getting the money turned over, but have to wait a few days to get everything finalized. At this time, please do not use paypal to send me anything, as I am closing that out. Anything sent via paypal will be refunded and not processed. Please do not send me any applications or checks. They will be returned to you. I will not be taking any more orders for USAWA merchandise. I am working to get funds transferred over to the new executive board, so I will not be processing any more funds at this time, so that I can close out the account and make the transition as quickly as possible.

Meet announcement

KCSTRONGMAN is excited to announce the fourteenth installment of the Old Time Strongman Championship. This will be the eleventh time this meet has been held at our facility, with the first three being held in Kirksville, hosted by Thom VanVleck’s JWC club. Ours is a no-frills facility, and a no frills meet. It is a place where big hitters get together to lift heavy weight. There is no climate control other than opening a door and some windows (we do have a big fan, but then you might not be able to hear the down command). The latrine comes in the form of an outhouse out back. We dust out the spider webs and knock down any wasp nests before you get there. The weights might be rusty, but they get heavy enough, anyhow.

Since its inception, there have been seven men’s division winners, and five women’s. Chad Ullom and Phoebe Todd have won four apiece. Who out there is ready to take up the challenge and vie for the title of 2025 Old Time Strongman Champion? We hope to have a fantastic turnout. Details below:

Heavy Lift Championship

By Eric Todd

For this year’s championship, we tried something different. I got a call from Big Frank Ciavattone a few months back suggesting a meet with multiple locations. This year we hosted on at my house in the Kansas City area and one at Frank’s gym in the Boston area. WE had a total of 13 lifters with seven at my place and six at Frank’s. I was unsure of how the logistics would work out in regard to getting results tallied in a timely fashion with me having to get his results from him digitally, but it worked famously. In the 32 years since this meets inception, there have been nine unique women’s champions and thirteen unique men’s champions. This year, Jessica Hopps defended her title against former women’s champion, Mary McConnaughey. Mary was returning to competition after about a ten-year sabbatical. After many top three finishes, Chad Ullom found his way to the top of the podium in his first championship effort. He bested Abe Smith, who was also a former champion, having won the title back in 2001.The lifting was fierce, and the comradery fantastic. Below are the results:
