Of the (42) unique USAWA lifts, I only know the historic significance of the Scott Lift. The technique mimics how Nurse Scott would get patients off the floor. The others seem contrived to me, but I admit that I have no understanding of why 12″ foot spacing, heels together have origins in the original forms of weightlifting. I also don’t know much if anything about Piper, Lano, Van Dam, Maxey, Carter, or Phumchaona as I did not have the fortune of sharing the platform with them.
Of the (21) unique IAWA lifts, some seemed really interesting to me like the Domaal Squat. Given that we already test fingers with Deadlift and Straddle Deadlift, testing with Hack Lift seems a little redundant. I have mixed feelings about Squat-Bench-Deadlift and Snatch-Clean & Jerk. I contest these lifts in other organizations, but feel like they are an important part of physical culture and should be the basis for Team Lifts and Repetition Lifts.
