The 2000 Zercher was held at Clark's Gym in Columbia, Mo, February 5th and 6th.

     A total of 7 lifters participated, including a return of longtime all-round lifter
  John Carter.  John was unable to come back Sunday to finish the meet, which was unfortunate
  as he is a several time past winner. There were also a number of no-shows, due to injuries
  and unforseen circumstances.  Grip master Kevin Fulton, Nebraska, was unable to attend,
  due to a back injury he got the week before, Joe McCoy, Texas, ran into personal problems,
  and Angela McBride, Mike's sister, was involved in an automobile accident earlier in the 
  week, and while she was not seriously injured, was unable to lift.
 
  Once again, the contest went down to the last lift, the hip lift, with Joe Garcia edging
  Mike McBride out for the win.  Mike, a powerful lifter, as evidenced by his 465 Zercher
  lift, was unable to overcome the 700+ lbs deficit he incurred in the Hand and Thigh lift.

     Bill Clark, the originator of the USAWA, and IAWA, was also back on the platform.
  Bill has become the true bionic man, not because of strength, but he has more artificial
  joints than anyone we know.  (Try both knees, both hips, and one shoulder).  Bill's shoulder
  was just replaced a couple of months previous, so he was unable to use much weight in any
  of his lifts.

    Sean Quick, our youngest gym member, is quickly showing himself to be a true all-rounder.
  Clark's gym has boards of achievement up on the walls, and Sean got on the Neck lift board
  with his 300lb lift, and is only 300 lbs. away from the 1500 Hip Board.  Not too bad for
  a 16 year old who only weighs 168 lbs.

    While this meet ended up as a gym meet, some of the lifting was as good as you'll see 
  anywhere in the country, and no way detracted from the fun that all had.  After we get
  the film developed, we'll add a link for the pictures, so check back.
